ISO Fire Protection Rating

Suwanee County Emergency Services Fire Protection Rating is a class 5/5x, the highest rating ever awarded to the County.

According to a report by insurance services office, Incorporated (ISO), “the rating means the counties fire suppression services are improving in the face of the demands of a changing environment.”

After increasing the number of career emergency service personnel, training, equipment and fire stations and prevention efforts over the last few years, this improved rating is a milestone. It shows the level of commitment we have to the residents of Suwanee County in providing professional fire protection.

The requirements for each of the classifications are as follows:

Class 5: To meet this classification, properties must be both, within 5 miles of a Suwanee County Fire Station and within 1000 feet of a fire hydrant.

Class 5x: This is the standard classification for Suwanee County if the requirements of class 4 are not attained. If you are within 5 miles of a fire station but do not have a hydrant within 1000 feet of your property. Or if you have a fire hydrant within 1000 feet of your property but live more than 5 miles from the fire station, you will be offered a Class 5x rating.

Stations 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5 of Suwanee County Fire Rescue are staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week with professional career firefighters. Station 31, 35, 41, 43, & 51 are operated by reservists and volunteers.

ISO experts collect information about the quality of public fire protection in more than 44,000 fire districts across the United States. Nearly all insurers of homes and businesses use ISOs Public Protection Classifications (PPC) in calculating insurance premiums.
