Chief Sommers

Chief Sommers has been serving the department since 2001. He has worked his way up to his current position as Public Safety Director. Chief Sommers currently oversees  5 Professional Stations staffed and operated with 43 staff members with 11 Reserve Stations and 65 Reserve Members providing the following services: Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, Community Outreach Programs, New Construction Inspections, Annual Inspections, Public Education, Investigations, Tactical Response Team and a Regional Hazmat Team.  

Asst. Chief Hand

Assistant Chief  Eddie Hand

Chief Hand has been serving the department since 1998. He has seen the department evolve from Suwannee County Fire Department into what is now Suwannee County Fire Rescue. He has held many positions over the years and currently serves as the Assistant Chief. He currently oversees the Operation Division, Fire Grant Funding, and Medical Supplies. Chief Hand currently holds certifications as Firefighter II, EMT, Paramedic, Instructor I, Live Fire Instructor and has an AS degree.

Battalion Chief Howard

Chief Howard has been serving the department since 1994. He was one of the first employees of what was Suwannee County Fire Dept which eventually merged with Rescue becoming Suwannee County Fire Rescue.  He has held many positions over the years and currently supervises A-Shift. Chief Howard currently holds certifications as FireFighter II, EMT, Paramedic, Instructor I, Inspector II, Investigator I and Live Fire Instructor.

Battalion Chief Jordan

Chief Jordan has been serving the department since 2009. Chief Jordan came to us from Marion County Fire Rescue with many years of experience. Chief Jordan currently holds certifications as FireFighter II, EMT, Paramedic, Instructor I, and holds a BA degree. He currently supervises C-Shift.

Battalion Chief Garbett

Chief Garbett has been serving the Department since 2008. Chief Garbett began his career as a Volunteer in 1990 and started with a paid department in 1992. Garbett came to us from the City of Lake City and is a Veteran in the fire service. Chief Garbett currently holds certifications as  FireFighter II, EMT, Paramedic, Instructor I, Inspector I, Investigator I and Fire Officer IV. He currently supervises B-Shift.

Captain  Nathan Griffis

Captain Griffis has been serving the department since 2008. Captain Griffis came to us from Hamilton & Columbia County with many years of medical experience including instructing at Lake City Community College & North Florida Community College. Captain Griffis currently holds certifications as FireFighter II, EMT, Paramedic, Instructor I, Nationally Certified EMS Educator and has an AS degree. He currently oversees the Quality Assurance Program and Coordinates the Training Division.
